Perdue seeks 1-cent hike in sales tax – CharlotteObserver.com

Governor Perdue is proposing a “temporary” 1-cent sales tax, bringing the Mecklenburg sales tax rate to 8.25%, and other counties to 7.75%.  This will be in addition to the “temporary” taxes introduced in 2001 (which are still in effect), and a possible boost in the income-tax rate.

Another online retailer pulls back – CharlotteObserver.com

Retailers (Amazon.com, Overstock.com) are pulling their Internet Affiliate programs in response to the NC State Legislature’s latest proposal to tax online affiliates.

Similar measures were vetoed in California, and other affiliate programs have been cancelled in Hawaii and Rhode Island for similar tax proposals.
